Fifty-Two Frames: Out of Focus.

Some weeks I let the photo come to me, some weeks I try too hard, and some weeks I have one idea, and I do it once, and it works.

I liked the yellow of the background to kinda indicate old vs new, giving the papers a parchment glow. But I sacrificed the natural color of the hand for that.

Thanks to my roommate, the hand model.

Week 23: Out of Focus

Misplaced focus on a school night.

Old school Israeli phonage.

Spotted in Ashkelon: Anyone remember these? A little younger than the Asimon-eating public pay phones, the Telecard-eating phones were a classic by the time I first started coming to Israel in 2000.

No, I didn’t bother to see if it still worked. Remember the one-in-a-million magical Telecard that would never run out?

Free calls to Israel!?

UPDATE: Apparently the site I reviewed below is now defunct. This page gets a lot of traffic so I thought I’d help out by saying that Skype is a decent option and so is Israel’s very own JaJah. I have friends who use Rebtel, which I find a little convoluted. Google Talk is my main source for free phone calls and video calls these days.

Convince your Israel buddies to get a North American VOIP line (now in British and Australian, too). It now comes in reverse, too – you can get an Israeli VOIP line through HOT.

What do I use? Mainly MagicJack and an American-side calling card 972shalom.com. Have now updated more on that.

Otherwise, grow up and just call us out here. We get homesick, you know.
